Exigence Essay

The exigence paper took my original exploratory topic and applied for different analyzation to be made on the topic. I switched my focus and incorporated how civil engineering affected my life and not only me but how it impacted the world. I was able to introduce my own goals and aspirations towards the topic for example, becoming one myself and being able to become the successful civil engineer that I talk about in this paper. I also asked myself questions like, “What is the use of this topic?” and “How is it necessary to people’s daily lives?” in order to talk about how this topic was important and relevant to the world. In order to support my thesis statement I was required to not only determine why this topic was essential to me but the world.

Throughout this paper I explored and analyzed another different genre, which was writing on the exigence of a topic, through my writing. In exploring this new genre I was able to include my own perspective in the piece while also using evidence from multiple articles in order to support my arguments.

I developed new strategies in reading, by evaluating the topic of the paper and highlighting what the paper is asking from me. I make sure I am certain of what my thesis statement should be related towards. Furthermore, I  developed strategies in drafting and editing by first analyzing all of the revisions made by my peers. After that determining how I need to change the errors in my paper and how I can introduce the idea back into my paper. I also made sure to not make the same mistakes for example, being too general in a sentence, that way I would receive new revisions the next time I did a peer review.

I felt for this paper I was much more engaged in the peer review and that allowed me to make the correct changes to my final draft. I was presented my own error by my peer Ronya, that vitally hurt the organization and the structure of my paper, since I did not incorporate half of the topic into my thesis. Through my newly developed strategies in drafting and editing I was able to fix the error and incorporate all the necessary ideas in to my essay, with a thesis that covered all parts of the paper. This will benefit my writing by strengthening the ability to point out what the topic is asking me to write in order for me not to get off topic throughout my paper and write ideas that have no relevance to the paper. If all my ideas are relevant, then my peers would be able to provide me with new criticism that is strengthening other parts of my writing.
